    This class focuses on visual arts for children ages 5-10 and tweens ages 11-13 with special abilities & needs both physically and emotionally who require less independence in art making.

    Lessons are both art as therapy, open studio exploration of materials and guided learning of artists and mediums and are adaptable to each student’s style of learning.

    We love to facilitate each student’s ideas and freedom to self express safely in a nurturing environment.

    This class is guided by Karissa Miller, degreed art educator with 20+ years experience in teaching both general and special needs art education.

    ART INDEPENDENCE for ELLIJAY Home Schoolers

    AGES 4-12

    Explore all areas of art—2D, 3D, digital, mixed media—through personalized study paths. Students can:
    Dive into the work of great artists and art styles across history. Learn to use art as a language to express big ideas.
    Practice thoughtful critique and discussion. Perfect for motivated learners who want to explore deeply, think critically, and create boldly.

    Classes are held at the Gilmer County Library and Ellijay River Park

    FREESTYLE: Open Studios for Tweens & Teens

    AGES 11-17

    Sundays: 10:30am - 12:30pm and 1:00pm- 3:00pm-Students may sign up for one or both sessions.

    Let’s get creative—your way! Tween/Teen Freestyle is all about exploring the wide world of visual art with freedom, fun, and a little bit of guidance.

    What to Expect:
    • Hands-on multimedia projects
    • Dive into a variety of art styles and techniques
    • Learn how to create a collection of artwork to show professionally
    • Explore all subjects of art: 2D, 3D, design, and beyond!

    We will have Art Exhibitions periodically throughout the year!

    No pressure, just plenty of space to express, experiment, and explore what art means to you.

    Young artists, get ready for a hands-on art adventure! In this multimedia open studio, students will bring their ideas to the table and the teacher facilitates—from painting and drawing to ceramics and sculpture, printmaking, collage, and more. Young artists have access to a wide variety of materials and mediums to explore freely!

    Perfect for curious kids who love to make, explore, and express themselves through art while socializing with other young artists.

    CREATIVE INTENTION

    Ages 18+

    Tuesday Evenings 6:00pm-8:00pm

    Explore and develop your creativity through journaling and multi-media art projects focused on healing, growing and decompressing.

    Appropriate for all levels of artistic experience.

    Journals and art supplies provided. Facilitated by Gina Evanzia, Teaching Artist and Studio Member. Gina takes a nurturing arts as therapy approach to designing prompts that inspire release of mental anguish and renewal of strength.

    Beginning Oil Painting with Erin Drakeford

    Ages 18+

    Whether you’re brand new to painting or looking to expand into oils, this class guides you through foundational oil painting techniques from color mixing, brushwork, to composition and finding inspiration.

    Erin Drakeford is a renown teaching artist at Arts Beacon in Atlanta, Studio Member at IASC and owner of Bell Moon Arts in Hayesville, North Carolina.

    ART CULT: OPEN STUDIOS

    Ages 18+

    Create and commune in a shared studio space for artists who want to make work, meet other creatives, exchange feedback, and exist in creative proximity.

    Good music. No instruction. No pressure.

    Just your materials, your work, and a room full of fellow creatives!

    Facilitated by renown Atlanta artist, Erin Drakeford, who also owns Bell Moon Arts in Hayesville, North Carolina.

  • OPEN STUDIOS: 2D/3D

    Ages 18+

    Join us most Saturdays for an Open Studios Art Experience from 10:00am-3:00pm. Bring in your personal projects, artworks from classes or start a fresh collection of work with us in both 2D and 3D mediums while socializing with other artists.

    Our 400 SF classroom serves as a comfortable space to work on assemblage art, paintings, printmaking, drawings, mixed media, etc! 6 adults can sit together at our huge farmer’s style table.

    We also have 3 easels with stools and a drawing horse that can be utilized within the classroom or huge communal space.

    For ceramics and wood working, we offer our 1000 SF communal space with tables, chairs, stools and use of our in-house power tools, Shimpo slab roller, 3 pottery wheels and a print press. We are not able to supply wood, clay, glazes or pottery tools at this time-so bring your own!

    A studio member is onsite to facilitate your ideas with you and assist with all studio equipment if needed!
